Ronmor Holdings, a commercial real estate developer from Calgary, confirmed a ransomware attack in late September. The announcement was made after a notice appeared on the notorious ransomware gang REvil’s data leak site declaring they had downloaded 755 GB of Ronmor’s data.

In response to the claims, Ronmor CEO Dallas Wingerak said, “I can confirm that in late September we learned that Ronmor was the victim of a ransomware attack on our systems and company network.”

Wingerak’s statement said the company does not yet have full details of the incident or the compromised data involved. The extent to the damages or any ransom demands are also unclear (as of the time the statement was released), however, Wingerak mentioned Ronmor has “immediately launched a comprehensive investigation into this data breach and have retained a highly experienced group of third-party cybersecurity experts to support our efforts.”

This is incident is one of many recent attacks as we are continuing to see a larger number of Canadian businesses drawing attention from international cyber criminal organizations.
